Question by James M: What kind of new "handout programs" is Obama going to put in place to get votes of Middle Class? The only one I hear is "tax he rich" and redistribute the income in form of tax breaks for middle class. Well, hasnt that scheme been tried before and the rich seem to be getting along better than ever. What are the new " handouts " that are coming for us ? I haven't heard about any "handout programs". I have heard of programs to help middle class families.

So far, the "handouts" to the middle class will do nothing once the handouts for the poor and lazy are enacted. I love that for the middle class he wants to give a tax credit, paid for by increasing the taxes of the wealthy, while ELIMINATING taxes for the poor! So far, in the programs I've read about ON HIS OWN WEBSITE, he wants to increase spending by at least $ 50 billion, eliminate taxes for at least 12% of Americans and enact several policies that will negatively impact at least two industries as a whole, guaranteeing the loss of employment for many in those industries in order to "help" our economy and national debt. Did I miss something in that thought process somewhere?

>>> good morning, i'm chris jansing . tomorrow could be the most critical night in the race for president. the candidates are giving us a preview of their debate strategies now. president obama left a swanky resort where he is doing debate prep to deliver pizzas to volunteers in nevada. it was a break from what we hear he is working on including shortening and sharpening his answers. not his idea of a good time.

>> he's very well informed. he is a fluid speaker. he has served as president. he's got a tremendous amount of information at his command. he doesn't mess up very often. he simply doesn't create the memorable gaffe very frequently, although he's had a couple of things with "you didn't build that" and that sort of thing.

>> his weakness is he can come off as prophesorial and arrogant and long-winded.
>> how about you? what do you think about the president? what has he got going for him?
>> he should twitter because it would force him into shorter answers. he's got the advantage romney has a bunch of weaknesses obvious in the polls. he can keep trying to shift the debate toward those romney weaknesses. in particular, the sense he's out of touch with the middle class . you'll hear the number 47 as often as obama can get it into the debate.
>> you think he can come off as aloof. when you look at the polls, the one thing he's consistently exceeded mitt romney at is likability.
>> right. yet he does have -- it's partly it's proffesorial. when he looks like john kennedy he's on an upslope. he's not so good when he thinks he is way ahead and konts respect an opponent. i have a hunch he is hearing that from his folks in that room in nevada saying, you can't make a mistake like that.
>> part of it is who you compare him to. he's aloof compared to bill clinton . bill clinton has a touch.

>> let's talk about mitt romney . strengths, weakness.
>> mitt romney 's strength is that he is, comes across as competent, as a capable human being . as somebody who projects an air of authority, especially when he talks about the economy. that is the private sector track record. the flip side , the weakness is the 47%. some of the attacks he's taken in terms of that business record . i think mitt romney 's biggest problem though, chris, is the sense people can't be sure exactly if he believes what he's saying. he needs to project authentic passion for what he believes his plan would do for the american economy to make the 47% lives better as well as the other 53.

>> i thought the definitive line on politics, what you need is sincerity, if you can fake that, you can do anything. it's troublesome on this question of authenticate. what is authenticity? romney has taken a number of positions on issues which you will be sure obama will try to sneak in there somehow. he can be ferocious and disciplined. go back to that newt gingrich debate in florida where he dispatched newt gingrich . he can be very good. i think he can have real highs, but also can have lows and say the darnedest things sometimes.

>> one of the things we are being told from inside the romney camp is he is getting ready for the 47% video. he knows the question is going to come up. this is what his advisor says. "we wouldn't be surprised, obviously, if that came up in the debate, and the governor's prepared, obviously, to respond about it. the fact is as governor romney has said repeatedly, he is running to help 100% of americans." he has said that. he said that repeatedly. it still resonating in a negative way with voters. what do you think he has to say about the 47% which has dogged his campaign since that video came out?
>> remember, that was recorded during a fund-raising activity. it was a cut. this is an opportunity for governor romney to have his message come through unfiltered to the american people . that's, i think, what needs to come through. his sincerity, his warmth, his intellect, his optimism on the future of america and how we solve the challenges, and the two roads. the road the president defined over the last four years, we don't think the american people have embraced and will continue to embrace, and the road of optimism and pro-growth policies to get america back to work. that's the choice.
>> isn't the problem for mitt romney that people obviously believe, which was the mantra, that the democratic party tried to define that the obama campaign tried to define, that is not a guy for the 100%? this is a guy who frankly favors the wealthy. people like him. and that he doesn't get the cares and worries of the average american ?
>> i think that's the divide and conquer mentality. mitt romney cares deeply about the american people . he cares deeply about the future of this country and our kids and grandkids. that's way can bring forward in this debate because it will be unfiltered. it won't be split and cut by the media or by whoever is slicing and diesing any recorded messages that have been done before. this is an unfiltered opportunity for governor romney to lay out his optimistic and upbeat plan for the american people and for our great country. that's why i'm so excited about tomorrow night.
>> let me ask you about something dave gertz wrote in "the new york times" today. he suggested an opening statement for mitt romney . let me read part of it for you. i'm a nonideological guy running in an ideological age and i'm pretending to be more of an ideologue. i ended up running myself down. it hasn't worked. i'm behind. i decided to run the last month of this campaign as myself. there has been a criticism that he has gone from being a moderate to a conservative. has he become too conservative for the general electorate, and do you consider mitt romney to be a true conservative?
>> sure, he's a conservative. what he is is a problem solver . his entire life, whether it's his professional life, whether it's in the volunteer activities he did for the olympics, all the things he's done is taken real serious challenges and problems and solved them. his unique opportunity in america right now is to turn the country around, which is what he did for the companies and what he did for the olympics. i think he's uniquely qualified right now in american history to do what exactly america needs. that is to turn this country around, get it back on track and begin to create jobs and grow that economy.
