Sleeping Dogs Walkthrough: Serial KillerProducer Dan Sochan takes us through one of the many multi-part police side missions open to the player, accessible from the Hong Kong police undercover HQ. Two Americans, Alvin E. Roth and Lloyd Shapley, were awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science on Monday for their work on market design and matching theory, which relate to how people and companies find and select one another in everything from marriage to school choice to jobs.
Mr. Roth, 60, is known for putting these theories to practical use, in his work on on a program that matches new doctors to hospitals and more recently for a project matching up kidney donors. A professor at Harvard, he recently accepted a new position at Stanford.
Mr. Shapley, 89, a mathematician and economist long associated with game theory, is a professor emeritus at the University of California, Los Angeles. He made some of the earlier theoretical contributions to research on market design and matching, in the 1950s and 1960s. He looked at why, in a free market, it was sometimes difficult for individuals to come to an agreement about proper matches.
In a paper with David Gale in 1962, Mr. Shapley explained how individuals can be paired up together in a stable match even when they disagree about what qualities make the right match. Marriage was one of the main targets of this analysis.
Question by French Fry Hunter: Associated Press wants all info on Illinois FOID cards saying it's "Public Information"? Illionois Attorney General (Democrat) agrees. Perfect example of why mandatory gun registration is a bad idea? How many ways can you think of that this can go wrong? At least some police departments are resisting it. Best answer for Associated Press wants all info on Illinois FOID cards saying it's "Public Information"?:

Illinois has little regard for constitutional rights. The right to keep and bear arms, and now the right to privacy. One of the most corrupt states in the USA. This cannot possibly be a surprise to you that they would do this.

Gun owners will be targeted for theft and hatred. Non-gun owners will be targeted for crime because they are defenseless. The State Police is refusing to comply.

I"m absolutely positive that, 'something's going to go wrong'. This is just one more form of malicious attack against gun owners and supporters of Second Amendment rights. Making such sensitive information available to the general public is tantamount to requiring all women who live alone to clearly identify themselves as such in the public phone book. Anyone who wants them has got them - Period. What's the ASSociated Press going to demand next? An open gate policy at, and public tours of, Fort Knox? If I put a sign on my front lawn that says, 'Gun Owner' or, 'Second Amendment Supporter' in what way does this benefit the general public? Damned stupid asinine ASSociated Press! They're being obviously malicious; and, this time, they're clearly looking for blood - Gun owners' blood! When your front door gets kicked in, your house gets ransacked, your women get raped, and all your guns are taken, who's going to be able to go after the ASSociated Press as the, 'aiding and abetting cause' of any such calamity? Can you hear the news commentator now? 'Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.' 'It's a sorry night, indeed!' 'We've had another extremely violent home break-in and robbery.' 'Once again, a woman has been raped; her husband has been savagely beaten; and there's, now, more stolen guns out on the street for law enforcement to have to deal with.' 'We want to warn you that the following video is disturbing and meant for mature viewers only ........ ' At the present time, somewhere, between 10 and 20 percent of illegal, 'street firearms' are stolen; but, this is only because the people who do these vile things don't have an ASSociated Press, 'Shopping List' to work from. Humph! Evil men and their vile imaginations, until The Messiah returns, I guess they're always going to be with us. Aren't they.

I'm very glad that Colorado doesn't consider the info on my CCW permit to be "Public Information." I hate Illinois Nazis.

Hmmm, ways gun registration can go wrong: 1) Allows anyone, criminals, activitist, the press to target people who otherwise are not newsworthy. 2) It almost certainly cannot be accurate - people aren't static. They move, they sell their guns, they give away their guns, they die, they get married, they get divorced, they have other reasons for changing their names or any of another host of things associated with misidentification. It means that the system almost certainly isn't accurate in anything like real time. 3) It almost certainly would create or dramatically expand the "black market" for unregistered firearms. 4) It would increase the cost of firearms ownership, and probably the cost to taxpayers as a whole somewhere in the process - you have the cost of the maintenance of the record, auditing, enforcement, etc. I'm sure there are others I can think of, but that's what immediately came to mind. With an FOID the background check is minimal, due to the background check for the FOID. When the CCW list in one state was published, a criminal took the information from the list and was selling forged CCWs, which the criminals who bought them used to get fake driver's licenses and purchase guns illegally.
