Question by should i: Regarding the Western Digital MYBOOK external HardDrive, What is "SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION"? I recently bought a 250GB External Hard Drive, called "MyBook Essential Edition", made by Western Digital. In order to get it to work, I had to go to the Western Digital website & download the drivers, or whatever. Upon doing so, I noticed that the MYBOOK external hard drive finally appeared under MY COMPUTER, and I opened the drive and saw that a file was being created (presumably a file recording information from my computer without my permission). The name of the file was "system_volume_information". It was a hidden file, but I found it and it's properties indicated a size of about 32 megabytes. I tried to delete it, but it would not allow itself to be deleted. I went in under safe mode, but still could not delete it. Is this a necessary file, or is it SPYWARE? I don't see why a simple storage device, such as this external hard drive, needs to collect & store "system volume information" from my computer. Any ideas? UNH 'greatly saddened' by Marriott's death
DURHAM â€" University of New Hampshire officials released a statement Saturday afternoon after the arrest of a Dover man and UNH alum accused of killing UNH student Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott.
In the statement, university officials said they were saddened to learn of the alleged murder of 19-year-old Marriott, a sophomore in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, who had been missing since Tuesday, Oct. 9. Marriott, who was living with family in Chester while commuting to UNH, was studying marine biology. She was in her first semester at UNH.
"We were greatly saddened to learn of Lizzi's death and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends," said UNH President Mark W. Huddleston. "Lizzi was a new member of the university community and will be missed in our classrooms. Our focus now will be on supporting our campus community during this difficult time."
A moment of silence in Marriott's honor was observed at the beginning of Saturday night's men's hockey game.
University officials said they were shocked to learn UNH alumnus Seth Mazzaglia, 29, has been charged in connection with Marriott's death. Mazzaglia graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in theater.
The UNH counseling staff will be available to students who want to speak with someone. The UNH Counseling Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 24-hour help is available by calling 862-2090.
