Docm77´s NEW Minecraft World Tour - Episode 107: Lighthearted

President Obama took Mitt Romney's answer on Obamacare and how he would replace it as an opportunity to hit him on something his campaign has pushed for awhile - Mitt Romney as secretive candidate.

"When Gov. Romney says that he’ll replace it with something but can’t detail (what)… he says that he’s going to replace Dodd Frank, Wall Street reform but we don’t know exactly (how). He won’t tell us …(on Obamacare) all the good things that are in it are gonna be in there and you don’t have to worry ….(is he) keeping all these plans to replace secret because they’re too good? Is it because somehow middle class families are gonna benefit too much from them?"

Romney responded, referring to the way Obamacare was passed, "My experience as a governor (was)... I come in and lay down a piece of legislation and say it’s my way or the high way, I don’t get a lot done."

"You obviously have studied up on my plan…in fact I do have a plan," said Romney, saying he called his own Massachusetts plan "a model for the nation state by state. And I said that at that time."

Question by sevendollars@yahoo.cn: The government introduces a new "get tough on drugs" policy in which it will target the importers and dealers The government introduces a new "get tough on drugs" policy in which it will target the importers and dealers of drugs. There are two types of drugs - drug A and drug B. Drug A has an elastic demand in the relevant range. Drug B has an inelastic demand in the relevant rang. (a) Analyse the effect of the new drug policy in the market for both durgs. What is the effect on total expenditure on each of the drugs? (b) If the intent of the policy is to reduce the amount of drugs consumed, will the policy be successful? What if the intent is to reduce drug related crime? Best answer for The government introduces a new "get tough on drugs" policy in which it will target the importers and dealers:

Answer by Robert B
The war against drugs has been going on for 50 years. A)None, none. B)No. Still no effect. There are more drugs available in more places than when the war started. 50 years of effort zero effect.

Answer by Cthulhu fhtagn!
policy will increase price of both drugs, presumably by same %. it will reduce consumption of both drugs, but by different %. Consumption of elastic drug would decrease by more than price, leading to overall decrease in spending; Consumption of inelastic drug would decrease less, leading to higher expenditure. That's essentially what elasticity if for - figuring out if expenditure (i.e. revenue) will increase or decrease if you change price.

Answer by casco17
Neither for both. Drug users will steal if they need to; they'll steal more if the drug price goes us. Drug prohibitions/pricing have limited effect. Until and unless you can change (reduce) the demand for drugs, you won't make a big dent in crime.
