Question by Barry Marx: How come Obama said that "information is a distraction"? So only HIS "information" is important and no one elses? or should we just sit back and disregard ALL information unless Obama tells us its not a distraction, would that be called a Dictatorship? Best answer for How come Obama said that "information is a distraction"?:

Answer by The Blunt Ugly Truth
Conservatism is a mental disorder.

Answer by Romeo
Communists don't like truthful information getting out to the masses His little tiny brain probably can't handle very much information Here is the link http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1061200/pg1 He doesn't like people asking for the "birth certificate long form" that he spends hundreds of thousands to seal up

Answer by TEH TYME KITTEH Û©pantheistÛ©
He knows Illiteracy keeps the people in check

Answer by scott b
When did he say THAT??? Link?? Source??

Answer by Acetone Huffer
He didn't say that. You must not understand English very well. Maybe people like you should be made to show your birth certificate to prove your American and only then be able to access the www via an American provider.

Answer by TedEx
If we choose to get our information from Fox News it is a distraction from the bull that Obama and his flunky pres secretary are trying to feed us. BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!

Answer by Bug
First, I'd like to see proof of your assertion. A link would be sufficient. Second, if in fact he did say that, then would not "his" information also be a distraction? Failure of logic 101. And no, it would not be called a "dictatorship". Failure of History 101 as well.

I don't know why he said that. I have a little information for you, too! Cheney and the oil spill, from the Wall Street Journal: The oil well spewing crude into the Gulf of Mexico didn’t have a remote-control shut-off switch used in two other major oil-producing nations as last-resort protection against underwater spills. The lack of the device, called an acoustic switch, could amplify concerns over the environmental impact of offshore drilling after the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig last week... ... regulators in two major oil-producing countries, Norway and Brazil, in effect require them. Norway has had acoustic triggers on almost every offshore rig since 1993. The U.S. considered requiring a remote-controlled shut-off mechanism several years ago, but drilling companies questioned its cost and effectiveness, according to the agency overseeing offshore drilling. The agency, the Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service, says it decided the remote device wasn’t needed because rigs had other back-up plans to cut off a well. The U.K., where BP is headquartered, doesn’t require the use of acoustic triggers. Environmental lawyer Mike Papantonio said that it was Cheney’s energy task force - the secretive one that he wouldn’t say much about publicly - that decided that the switches, which cost $ 500,000, were too much a burden on the industry. Also, it turns out Halliburton has had many of these cement failures, some of which caused oil spills, like a huge one in the Timor Sea off Australia.

Saying "information is a distraction" is a weak argument for censorship and propaganda. There is a very good reason why freedom of the press (and it's modern counterparts) is such an important part of the Bill of Rights. It's not a good sign that a President would argue against the Bill of Rights with the presumption that Americans can not distinguish facts from BS. On the other hand plenty of people believed Obama's BS and elected him President, but I'd like to think it was more disenchantment with the Bush Administration and the chance to show the world that America was capable of electing a black President. Now that Bush is gone and history has been made I am hopeful that our next President will be better than both Bush and Obama, especially in regard to the Bill of Rights and personal freedoms.

Oh ye of so very little context or accuracy...lol...so very beckian! If taken in context, the speech given by President Obama at Hampton University in Virginia is spot-on accurate. The words to which you make reference were regarding the importance of education and spoke of Thomas Jefferson's realization that citizens must stay informed to make a democracy work. The actual words are as follows (AFP reports): "You're coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank all that high on the truth meter," AFP reports President Obama saying to the students. "With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations---none of which I know how to work---information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment...rather than the means of emancipation." Note please that there is absolutely NO reference here to having us "just sit back and disregard ALL information"---that is a COMPLETE distortion and a blatant LIE! I have a 15-year-old granddaughter who spends way too much time being DISTRACTED from actually learning, building, or making things that will help her function in life, simply because she'd rather idle away her time on her iPad drawing anthropomorphic animals that do not exist, in repetitive fashion. She relies on this to relieve the boredom that comes from being alone too much where she currently resides, but there is no real intellectual CHALLENGE to what she is doing---no real interaction with physical others---no mind growth, and she becomes reliant on the comfort zone she has constructed for herself that seems like an intellectual deadend to me, the 65-year-old college-educated free-spirit type that wants her to get out more, interact in learning environments with people of all ages, be CHALLENGED by life. If you open your mind ever so slightly to the idea that this very brilliant man we have elected to lead this nation to safety just might know a thing or two that is worth knowing, perhaps you would have a better understanding of and perspective on the depth and breadth of his wise words. Beck, by the way, is grossly undereducated---no college. He relies on disinformation, hype, and hyperbole. Don't fall for that..."emancipate" yourself from the "distraction" of Faux News.

You really are paranoid. I suggest you turn off the right wing media for a month if that is even possible. There should be a 12 step group for you but try it & listen to what 0bama says & you will find you have nothing to be afraid of & he is not at all the way you think he is according to your question.
