Judge jails âInnocence of Muslims" filmmaker - Los Angeles Times [dayinformations.blogspot.com]
Question by Annie: What does "biographical information" in a cover letter for a poetry submission mean? I would like to submit to a poetry magazine and one of the requirements for submission is to include "biographical information" in the cover letter. What does this mean? Is it my name, address, phone, email, and et cetera or do they want to know my life story or something? Forgot to mention, I already have a copy of Poet's Market (that's how I found the magazine I wanted to submit to) and couldn't find any suggestions about it in there. Best answer for What does "biographical information" in a cover letter for a poetry submission mean?:

Your name, address, and so forth should be included in the header in the standard business letter format. Biographical information isn't your entire life story, but give them a little bit about the history of your writing. Where have you been published before? Did you study writing at any particular university? Why did you begin to write? Don't make this more than a couple sentences, but give them a little insight into who you are and why they should pay attention to what you have written.

You should check out a copy of POET'S MARKET because they have suggestions and a sample letter in the front sections of the book. Here's what I do in my cover letter. I list the poems that I am sending by their titles. Then I tell them whether or not the poems are under consideration anywhere else. If I've read their magazine (you really should know where you are sending your work and why) then I may mention a specific poem or two that I really liked so that they know that I am familiar with their magazine and not B.Sing them. I also include a short biography as might appear in their contributor section should one of my poems be accepted for publication. Since you are new, more than likely you do not have much by way of bio, so you may want to skip that. Whatever you do, do NOT mention you've made the mistake of being published in the International Library of Poetry or on poetry.com, that is a huge rookie mistake. Also, do not center justify your poems, that is also considered a newbie error, as is putting the little copyright symbol or a statement of copyright at the bottom of your poems. Always give your contact information. Name, mailing address, phone number and email address. Always be cordial and respectful, not overly friendly. A little personal information goes a long way. My most personal information is kept to whether I like certain poems in their most recent issue. Additional: Well, you could ask a question about the magazine here and hope that someone is familiar with them. I will also recommend http://www.duotrope.com as another possibility. They are an online database of thousands of magazines and they have an online submission tracking system. There is additional information there on most of the magazines you find in Poet's Market.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the filmmaker behind the controversial movie âInnocence of Muslims,â was being held in a federal detention center in Los Angeles late Thursday after a judge ordered him seized on a probation violation.
Under heavy security, Nakoula was taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown L.A. Officials said he was placed in protective custody.
Judge Suzanne H. Segal said Nakoula posed "some danger to the community" and had lied to probation officials.
"The court has a lack of trust in the defendant at this time," she said.
Nakoula was arrested earlier in the day. Federal prosecutors argued in a court hearing Thursday afternoon that he posed a flight risk and should remain in custody.
His attorney argued that Nakoula be released on bond, saying his client would be in danger at the downtown L.A. federal prison because it had a large Muslim population. He also denied his client violated his probation.
Nakoula was convicted on bank fraud charges in 2010 and was warned against misbehaving on the Internet.
TIMELINE: 'Innocence of Muslims' unrest
He was ordered not to own or use devices with access to the Web without approval from his probation officer -â" and any approved computers were to be used for work only. "Defendant shall not access a computer for any other purpose," according to the terms of his probation.
There were also restrictions placed on him in enlisting others to get on the Internet for him. Some speculated that Nakoula may have violated those terms after the film trailer was loaded onto YouTube, although it is unclear what exactly prompted the recent arrest.
Nakoula had been arrested in 2009 after federal agents searched his home in Cerritos on suspicion that he had engaged in a scheme to create fake identities and open credit cards in those names, then draw tens of thousands of dollars from the phony accounts.
According to the court file, Nakoula operated under a dizzying array of aliases, including Kritbag Difrat. In June 2010, he was convicted on four counts, including bank fraud and identity theft, and was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison. He was also ordered to pay $ 794,700.57 in restitution.
He was released, according to federal records, in June 2011.
Authorities interviewed Nakoula earlier this month amid the furor over the movie. Actors have identified him as the filmmaker.
